Measurement of Apoptotic Index (AI) Using an Antibody Against the Active Form of Caspase-3 as A Prognostic Factor in Stage II Colon Cancer

Apoptosis, a physiological phenomenon, is also associated with development and progression of malignant tumors. Caspases (Cysteine Aspartate-Specific Proteases) are a family of intracellular proteins involved in the initiation and execution of apoptosis. Caspase-3 is one of the key executioners of apoptosis. Measurement of apoptotic index (AI) by immunohistochemistry using an antibody against the active form of caspase-3 was correlated with prognosis in stage II colon carcinoma.
