Certification issues relating to Directive 2014/33/EU

Directive 95/16/EC, a regulation which stipulates the requirements for placing lifts on the market, was introduced in the EU states in 1999. Uniform implementation was envisaged but the need to improve market surveillance and coordination of the Notified Bodies became evident. The amended Directive 2014/33/EU entails some changes which have to be complied with during the conformity assessment process. This paper deals with the experience gathered by different European Notified Bodies in the field of EC type examination and certification, and addresses the challenges that the sector will be called upon to meet in years to come.
