The new 2014/33/EU Lift Directive: Part 1

After many years of hard work the Lift Directive was submitted to the recast process, which led to the replacement of the previous 95/16/EC with the new 2014/33/EU. The difference between the years 2014 and 1995 corresponds to 19 (years) representing the service life of the earlier Directive which, however, was amended in 2006 with the publication of the Machinery Directive which had amended the boundary between lifting platforms and lifts connecting it to a speed of 0,15 m/s and introducing the concept of the load carrying unit and imposing that lifts were equipped with a fully enclosed car and with imperforated doors and walls. As with all the amendments to the European legislation, the same have been defined trying to treasure the experiences, both positive and negative, collected during the period of enforcement of the previous legislation.
