Proteome Analysis of Trypanosoma cruzi CL Brener, A Reference Strain of Genome Project

Trypanosoma cruzi is the etiological agent of Chagas disease. Treatment of CL Brener epimastigotes with 10% trichloroacetic acid completely inhibited the degradation of the proteins during extraction, leading to generation of a standard protein profile of two-dimensional poly-acrylamide gel electro-phoresis. Fifty-four landmark proteins detected on the standard gel were identified. The proteome approach provides a powerful tool to study biochemical changes found in T. cruzi depending on environmental change.
