LEARNING TO BE REFLECTIVE AND COLLABORATIVE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY (MOT) AND KNOWLEDGE

The paper will discuss the learning of a reflective and collaborative mindset for the education/development of MOT practitioners, benefiting from research on a management practitioner education/development program, the International Masters Program in Practicing Management (IMPM). As a collaborative effort by major business schools and corporations around the world, IMPM is designed to be the 'Next Generation' Masters Program for practicing managers (Medeni, 2006). It is a degree program that focuses directly on the development of managers in their own contexts - their jobs and their organizations. The program is structured around integrated, managerial "mindsets"; and specifically, the U.K reflective mindset module, and the Japan collaborative mindset module are the focus of this research. Based on theories of knowledge creation and management, and practical findings from IMPM, the main argument will be that learning the reflective and collaborative mindsets can play an important role for the creation and management of technology. The reflective MOT practitioners can not only contemplate and internalize the meaning/value of their own practical experience, but also articulate and externalize this invaluable tacit/implicit knowledge of practical experience in order to innovate and manage technology better. The contextual collaborative practice also plays a crucial role for the knowledge and technology management. This paper also provides a case story for the conference papers, 'FOSTERING CRITICAL REFLECTION IN MANAGEMENT LEARNING: A LITERATURE REVIEW,' and 'CONCEPTUALIZING AND COMPREHENDING REFLECTION AND REFRACTION, MOVING TOWARDS A "REFRACTIVE MINDSET"?' It would be useful, if these three papers could be considered and read together.
