Manganese oxide (MnO{sub}x) was synthesized by electrodeposition on carbon fibers. Observation by a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that a number of MnO{sub}x nanowires with the diameter of about 7 nm were deposited onto the surface of the carbon fibers. An X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of mean oxidization state of Mn in the deposited MnO{sub}x indicated that Mn existed as tetravalent state. The nanowired MnO{sub}x showed capacitive behavior for cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements in a neutral aqueous electrolyte. Furthermore, the voltammograms and structural change observed by TEM suggest that dissolution and re-deposition of MnO{sub}2 occurred during CV cycling.
