Literature Survey of Analytical Methods For Mercury in Matrices of Interest to Ethylene Plants

The charter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' (AIChE) Ethylene Producers Committee (EPC) calls for the communication of non-confidential information concerning the manufacture and distribution of ethylene. In support of this objective, the EPC's Feedstock and Product Issues Subcommittee commissioned a report that was presented at the 1996 Ethylene Producers' Conference that dealt with the analytical measurement of trace mercury contaminants in ethylene plant feed and product streams. Mercury contamination continues to pose a variety of problems to the ethylene producer, including threats to safety, health and the environment. Hopefully, the dissemination of these test methods will prove valuable in alleviating such problems and, in doing so, contribute to the common good and well-being of the ethylene industry. The purpose of this report is to include new and up-to-date information on mercury measurement methods, especially those that can be used by its members.
