Experimental measurements of induction time, particularly of organic substances, often exhibit a low degree of reproducibility, despite the experimental conditions are apparently unchanged. According to the current understanding, such behaviour reflects the distribution of nucleation times (t_N), since primary nucleation is supposed to be, at a fundamental level, a stochastic phenomenon [1,2].
