Evidence associated low-grade inflammation yielding elevated levels of acute-phase response (APR) proteins such as serum amyloid A, fibrinogen, CRP and haptoglobin in response to H. pylori and C. pneumoniae infection to initiation of gastritis and ischemic heart diseases. Sucrose polyesters (SPE) as substitutes for natural vegetable oils are expected to decrease essential fatty acid intake. Although adipose tissue may be a link as it is a possible site for the biosynthesis and release of inflammatory mediators, such as IL-6, it remains unrealistic to consume excessive proportions of SPE enriched diets to barely manipulate serum's triacylglycerol (TAGs) and cholesterol. In this context, SPE, the lipophilic solute contained within the dietary lipid solvent micelle, is excreted undigested together with bulky TAGs. In addition, the role of stress in health status and use of zocor for lowering cholesterol are discussed in this context.
