THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COMBINED WASHER-DRYERS IN REMOVING JAPANESE CEDAR POLLENS FOR CLOTHING DRIED OUTSIDE

During the pollen dispersal season, large volumes of pollens adhere to clothing dried outside. Studies indicate that as much as 40% of adhered pollens remain on clothing after shaking. In this study, the ability of washer-dryers to remove Japanese cedar pollens from clothing dried outside was examined. Pollens were collected from clothing using a membrane filter and their allergenic qualities were determined quantitatively. Using a combined blowing and agitating process that lasts 15 minutes, the study shows it is possible to remove over 90% of pollen allergens from clothing dried outside.
