In summer 2004 Fincantieri was commisioned to design and build a new fast ferry to operate on the Baltic sea. In addition to the great experiences achieved with over ten similar ferries built by Fincantieri in the past years, this monohull deep-V presents a solution adopted for the first time by FC: the transom interceptor system. This appliance, integrated to the ride control system, works in alternative of trim tabs and fixed wedge and in combination with stabilising fins giving not only a dynamic lift (optimizing the dynamic trim and lowering the resistance) but also a motions damping in rough water. In this paper, further to give a brief presentation of the ship's main characteristics, the results of the towing tank test of the above system are discussed, showing the improvements obtained.
