There are increasing demands of electric power for performance, efficiency, and various comfort units in vehicles. These challenges result in the development of 42V power systems instead of the existing 14V systems. Accordingly high-current electric chassis system, such as EMB(Electro-mechanical Brake), EPS(Electric Power Steering) and SBW(Steer by Wire) should switch their voltage lines to 42V. This paper describes the overall concept and the design procedure of REPS( Rack Assist Type EPS) system for 42V vehicles. The better efficiency of the 42V REPS system is confirmed by the comparison between the 42V EPS system and 12V one. Finally, the output performance of the 42V REPS system is shown in experimental results.
