Research of structural materials at NIMS and aim of structural materials caravan

The National Institute for Materials Science, NIMS, was established with the purpose of advancing material science and engineering in Japan by conducting basic and applied research of materials in a comprehensive manner. The research of structural materials has been carried out intensively from the viewpoints of higher safety, better eco-development, and more efficient use of resources and energy. Many material seeds related to nano-microstructure and property relationship have been found through the uitra-steel project as well as other projects for light metals, composite materials and so on. The development of new characterization techniques for structure and property and the investigation of long-term creep and fatigue data have long been the pride and advantage of NIMS. This caravan is one of our activities for the networking of research and development work that is necessary for the sustainable development of our society.
