摘要

With nearly 4 million people infected with HIV, scaling up prevention strategies, especially through behavioural change interventions has become imperative in India. Detection of gaps in Knowledge, attitudes and practices is essential for these inventions and has been attempted by a questionnaire survey of 1669 male and female respondents between 19 and 49 years chosen randomly from the five taluks of Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka State, India. Startling deficiencies in knowledge, attitudes of stigma and unfavourable practices were found with males being better informed, higher education contributing to better knowledge and favourable attitudes and practices. Predictors of knowledge and attitudes have also been elucidated.
