The HIV/AIDS pandemic has, in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, become one of the most significant factors influencing the well being of women, men and children. UN AIDS report on the global HIV/AIDS pandemic reports the number of women newly infected with HIV during 2001 as being 2 million and that of children being 800 OOO.The total number of women living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2002 was estimated at 18,5 million and the number of children at 3 million.
