PPAR7 fundamental role in adipogenesis

The peroxisomeproliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR7) is a nuclear receptor that integrates the control of lipid and glucose homeostasis. The actions of PPAR7 are mediated by two protein isoforms, the widely expressed PPAR7I and adipose tissue-restricted PPAR72 with an additional 28 amino acids in the NH2-terminus. The effects of the absence of PPAR7 has not been extensively characterized in vivo since the PPAR7 mice are embryonic lethal, therefore we generated mice that carry a hypomorphic mutation at the PPAR72 locus, yielding a WAT-specific PPAR7 knockdown. The PPAR(gamna)~(hyp/hyp) mouse model demonstrates that PPAR7 is the master regulator of adipogenesis Furthermore this model highlights PPAR7 fundamental roles in whole body physiology to maintain the metabolic and endocrine functions of white adipose tissue.
