Ageing and Health Policy

The demographic picture in many countries, including Germany, is rapidly changing. There is a growing percentage of people over 60 or 65 years of age. The entire population is shrinking, and the number of working people in relationship to the number of children and retired people is decreasing, as you can easily see from the table. The two models, with different retirement ages and assumptions for the annual number of immigrants, show the consequences of this trend. The "ratio of burden" in the first model exceeds 100 percent in the long-range and in the second model the ratio of burden nearly remains at the current level [1].
