As a consequence of the catastrophic flowslides occurred at the end of last century in the Campania Region, a comprehensive research is being carried out at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Seconda Universita di Napoli. The research includes laboratory and flume tests, monitoring of a natural slope subjected to a catastrophic flowslide and numerical analysis of its behavior. Collected data and interpretation of the slope behavior encourage an extension of the obtained results for the interpretation of other flowslides in similar soils. Further development of the research should concern the prediction of critical rainfalls and set up of alert systems, mapping of hazard areas and evaluation of the best methods for slope stabilization.
