Ultrasound safety: overview and what we do need in daily clinics for a safe use of diagnostic ultrasound

Recent diagnostic ultrasound machines have increased their acoustic intensities, and adequate attention should be paid to clinical safety. The World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) has announced recommendations for the safe use of diagnostic ultrasound. In terms of thermal information, however, machines do not give us sufficient information, and users need some displayed figures or symbols, which can correctly tell us accurate in vivo temperature under various vital conditions. Last year nonthermal bioeffects were discussed, and the WFUMB Symposium on Safety of Ultrasound in Medicine proposed the Conclusions and Recommendations on Safety of Echo-Contrast Agents in Diagnostic Ultrasound. It is important to discuss the strategies for the recommendations to be respected.
