Significant research activity has taken place over the past thirty years on the problem of quantitative determination of the structure of an unknown object by computerized processing of measurements of the wavefields diffracted by the object in a set of scattering experiments. This activity is founded on the mathematical theories of Inverse Scattering and is applicable in a number of seemingly different scientific disciplines, such as crystal structure determination, medical ultrasound tomography, acoustic and electromagnetic underground surveying, optical and coherent x-ray microscopy , and elastic wave inverse scattering . Related activities also form the well-known technologies of Computerized Tomography and, in fact, x-ray Computerized Tomography is the special case of the general discipline of Inverse Scattering obtained as the wavelength of the probing radiation approaches zero. Finally, electrocardiology is yet another discipline that may benefit from the theories of Inverse Scattering, as was recently shown in.
