COMPARISON OF MODAL TEST RESULTS FROM NON-CONTACTING AND CONVENTIONAL RESPONSE MEASUREMENTS

A band limited random amplitude acoustic field is used to excite a square, flat plate with clamped edges. Response measurements are made with an accelero-meter that is moved from point to point, and measurements of the near field acoustic response are made by moving a microphone from point to point over the same grid. The accelerometer and microphone are each referenced to a fixed microphone in the acoustic forcing field and modal results are obtained. Results are compared with analytical solutions and conclusions are presented concerning the use and possible applications of the non-contact measurement method.
