Isocyanides have an isoelectoronic structure with carbon monoxide and coordinate to various transition metals at the terminal isocyano carbon atom. In comparison with carbon monoxide, the electronic and steric properties of the isocyanides are seemed to be usable by the substituent on the nitrogen atom. In fact, a lot of isocyanides carrying various different substituents exist and have been used as a ligand of transition metal complexes, which show interesting properties in various reactions.
