Transformations through the combination of several simple Substrates, mediated by transition metal, have received considerable attention from the viepoint of green chemistry. Among their combinations, simple addition reactions must be desirable tools. Recently, we have disclosed the isolation of two four-membered metallacycles on treatment of bis(alkynyl) complexes with protic acid. Moreover, one of the four-membered metallacycles (1) was reacted with HCl (aq.) to afford some ring-opened HCl-adducts, depending on the reaction solvents (for example, Scheme l). Here we report reactions of the other four-membered metallacycle 3 with HC1 (aq.) and comparison of the new results with those of 1.
