The aim was to investigate the aerobic yeast propagation process during varying aeration intensities and the resulting outcome with regard to yield factors, doubling times and measurable stress caused to the yeast when using an in-tank aerator/agitator as aeration aggregate. The experiments were made both under semi scale conditions with a 10 hl test propagator and under full scale conditions with a 100 hl propagator. The experiments showed that aeration intensity had little effect on the yeast growth, and that no measurable stress was detected on the yeast as a result of the use of the agitator independently of agitation intensity.
