A Uniform Human Knowledge Interface to the Multi-Domain Knowledge Bases in the National Knowledge Infrastructure

This paper reports a human knowledge interface to the National Knowledge Infrastructure of China (NKI). NKI currently has multiple huge knowledge bases of 16 domains, containing more than 1,300,000 domain assertions and 300,000 concepts. The interface has five important features: (1) instead of implementing an interface for each domain, our interface provides a single ontology-mediated query language to allow users to query all the knowledge bases in a uniform and free manner; (2) the interface is multi-modal - users can query the knowledge bases either in natural language or by speech; (3) the interface is tolerant of errors in user queries; (4) the interface is capable of answering equivalent queries; and (5) the interface is context-aware.
