Novel inorganic hybrid membrane systems have been prepared using systematic continuos dipping technique. Characterisation techniques of these hybrids include BET surface area using cryogenic nitrogen, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), EDXA elemental analysis, x-ray photo electron microscopy (XPS) and single/mixed gas transport respectively. Mixed gas permeability experiments have been carried out to check the quality and also evaluate the transport mechanism/pore size of these membranes. An adsorptive-surface flow mechanism has been achieved for the transport of carbon dioxide through the membranes resulting in exceptionally high selectivity for this gas. Applications of these membranes include enhanced productivity in monodiameter wells and cost reduction of automation techniques, multilateral wells and underbalanced drilling. Downhole separation and simultaneous re-injection is also feasible since the membranes are inorganic and robust.
