In this paper we present a new approach to maintenance management; maintenance is looked at as a useful adding value operation rather than an unavoidable nuisance. Maintenance function has a high impact over production function because of equipment availability. From this point of view and taking into account the features of both production planning and control systems and maintenance management systems, we conclude that maintenance operations are part of the productive system, such as it is usually defined. So we developed a planning and control model of what we will call productive services, which is able to manage globally the maintenance and production functions. We present a methodology to analyse equipment history; equipment reliability forecast, planned maintenance, routine inspections and condition monitoring are taken into account Subsequently, two specific algorithms are introduced for establishing a maintenance policy. These algorithms are based on the revaluation of equipment reliability after routine inspections. A heuristic algorithm is also proposed for solving the associated scheduling problem based on a new methodology for the attribution of priorities to the different productive operations.
