In an attempt to enrich the genetic base of wheat-Thinopyrum intermedium octoploids, a new type of partial vh&2X-Thinopyrum amphiploid, TAI7044, conferring some specific properties was developed by conventional hybridization. The results from the genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) pattems of mitotic chromosomes, using St genomic DNA from Pseudoroegneria strigosa (StSt) in combination with blocking wheat DNA, revealed that TAI7044 contained 21 pairs of wheat chromosomes and 7 pairs of Th. intermedium chromosomes including six St-chromosomes and eight J-chromosomes. Of the J-chromosomes present in TAI7044, there were two satellited chromosome pairs, one with a large satellite and another with a small satellite in which no St-genomic hybridization signal was detected. The molecular karyotype of TAI7044 revealed by <3SH could be depicted In = 56 = 42 wheat + 6St + 4J + 4 J-sat.
