Creation of New Polymers Using Terminally Unsaturated Polyolefins Prepared with F! Catalysts

The selective synthesis of vinyl-terminated low molecular weight polyethylenes (PEs) has been one of the challenging subjects, because such PEs can be transformed by chain-end functionalizations to afford terminally dyeability, adhesion, payability, etc. In addition, these PEs may serve as macromonomers in copolymerizations with ethylene or a-olefins to yield long-chain-branched polymers, which are anticipated to possess excellent prossessability. Previously, we reported a new family of group 4 transition metal complexes featuring phenoxy-imine chelate ligands, named FI Catalysts, are capable of providing low molecular weight PEs having vinyl end groups [1]. Here, we describe such new zirconium complexes, which can promote the polymerization of ethylene for vinyl-terminated low molecular weight PEs with high activities, and the examples of their applications to create a new class of polymers.
