In order to increase the output of paper machines every single ring of the paper making chain has to be improved. This paper will focus on increasing the overall production of a paper making line by increasing the efficiency of off-line Calenders. This task will be accomplished by the incorporation of a continuous roll change system at un- and rewind (Flying Splice). The Flying Splice System at the calender un- and rewind will be explained. What are the technical challenges realizing the Splice? After the introduction of a few reference installations finally the differences to a Flying-Splice at Coaters will be worked out and an outlook into the future will be given.
