The long lifetime of the carbon nanotube electron emitter against ion bombardment and reaction with residual gases originates from strong chemical GC bonds constructing a honeycomb structure at the surface [1]. In a addition, the electron emission from carbon nano-systems shows many interesting characters differing from conventional electron sources. Beautiful emission patterns with five-or six-fold rotationalk symmetries are observed for clean multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), and showed the straight stripes [2], which have been clarified on the basis of Young's interference in previous papers [3,4). In addition, FEM patterns and spectra from MWCNT are much different from those from both single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and single walled carbon nanohorns (SWCNH). In this letter, we showed the peculiar emission patterns and the spectra from MWCNT and SWCNT, and discuss the possible origin.
