Summary of field trials implementing Enterisol~(R) Ileitis against ileitis

Recently, an avirulent live vaccine has been developed against infection with Lawsonia intracellularis (Enterisol~(R) Ileitis, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc.). This paper presents information on timing of vaccination, and results of five preliminary field trials. All sites had a history Lawsonia. infection, and had established feed medication programs to prevent or control the disease. One site did not have active clinical disease (trial #4, Table #1). Treated and control groups were matched to control confounding variables. In each trial, total feed medication use was decreased in the vaccinated study groups as compared to control groups.
