In vitro evaluation of seven commercial disinfectants against Lawsonia intracellularis

Lawsonia intracellularis (LI) is the etiologic agent of proliferative enteropathy (PE), an economically important enteric disease in pigs. For controlling outbreaks and transmission of PE in swine herds, disinfection of swine housing, pens, and equipment is an important strategy for eliminating or reducing the number of LI in the environment. However, little information is available on the efficacy of various disinfectants against LI.1 Therefore, the objective of this study was to use a tissue culture system to evaluate the in vitro efficacy of seven commercial disinfectants against LI.
