摘要

Tumor cell metastasis require the degradation of extracellular matrix components by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).These MMPs are mainly produced in tumor-associated fibroblasts,rather than in tumor cells themselves.It has been found that emmprin,a glycoprotein presents on the surface of tumor cells,stimulates the production of MMP-1,2,3 as well as membrane type MMP (MT1-MMP) by fibroblasts,and thus plays an essential role for tumor metastasis.
