With an engineering viewpoint, the authors consider as purpose to elucidate jaw movement disorder mechanism. The authors have developed a mouth opening and closing training robot using a 6-DOF parallel mechanism. The robot can reproduce the motion of the human lower jaw precisely. The robot carries laser sensors in order to measure the rotation center of lateral movement. In addition to back-and-forth movement and opening-and-closing movement, the authors added lateral movement training function. For lateral movement training, the authors also developed a master manipulator with 3-DOF.
