EFFECTS OF A QUIILAJA SAPONARIA EXTRACT IN DIETS ON WEANLING PIG GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND LNMUNE RESPONSE

It is well know that the use of extract of Quillay (Quillaja saponaria), South American tree, like adjuvant in vaccines have a positive immune and cells response. Furthermore, the use of plants extracts like alternative for feed-grade antibiotics andgrowth promote, is a growing sentiment in both general public and scientists. The extract of Quillay have saponins, with high concentration of triterpene saponins. This had been used in weanling pigs, with a disease challenge ( Salmonella typhimurium), with apparently little beneficial effect, between 17 and 45 days of age. The objective of the present study was to determine the effects of dietary supplementation with extract of Quillay (QP) on growth performance and immune response, in weaning pigs ina commercial pig farm in Chile.
