IN-WATER AMOXYCILLIN (SURAMOX 50) FOR CONTROL OF EXPERIMENTAL GLASSER'S DISEASE

Glasser's disease associated with pathogenic serotypes of Haemophilus parasuis is currently of increasing importance especially in high-health status herds (3). Although experimental models of the disease using intravenous or intraperitoneal injectionof virulent strains of H. parasuis have been described (1,2), there are few reports of use of experimental models for demonstration of efficacy of antimicrobial medication. This paper reports establishment of an experimental model of Glasser's disease and use of the model to test the efficacy of a stabilised formulation of amoxycillin used as in-water medication for treatment.
