Porcine circoviruses (PCV) are very small DNA viruses of pigs that belong to Circoviridae family (2). Two types of PCV have been described: PCV1, which is a persistent contaminant of a continuous PK-15 cell line (ATCC CCL-33), and PCV2, which is associated to an emergent disease of pigs called postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) (5). It is known that PCV are widely spread within the pig population worldwide, but controversial data on the evidence of PCV infection in other non-porcine species do exist in the literature. Therefore, the purpose of the present work was to screen the presence of antibodies to PCV2 in sera of several non-porcine species, as well as to study the presence of PCV2 nucleic acid in tissues of some of these species.
