Ever since the oil crisis of the 70 decade the search for new reserves has led to crude as high as 2000 ppm in organic nitrogen content. This crude and operational proceedins have caused serious damage to several catalytic-cracking and other refinery plants where cyanide is generated from organic nitrogen compounds in gas oil. This paper introduces an expert system developed to assist the operational team in controlling the corrosion process in Fluid Catalytic Cracking plants. The expert system is prone to obtain these variables from the process computer of the refinery or Digital Control System - DCS, to infer diagnosis, recommendations and alarms. On the other hand corrosion variables are acquired from a set of monitoring devices instaled together with the plant instrumentation and Chemical analysis are also provided to the system.
