Re-usable content and just-in-time are the cornerstones of contemporary thinking in learning and education. But just how easy is it to translate this theory into practice? What are the traps and pitfalls? What advice is there for people and organisations wishing to go down this path? This is a case-study presentation which shows how an Australian publishing company has reengineered itself and successfully implemented an authoring process and paradigm based on re-usable content and just-in-time learning. While this case study revolves around print-based materials the ideas and suggestions apply equally to online, CD, and other forms of content media. The ideas, thoughts, issues, and pitfalls addressed in this session would be relevant to individuals, institutions, and organisations that develop training courses or content for training courses. The aim of this session is to share some of the successes, failures, and insights into course content development.
