A Blended Learning Pilot Project was conducted as the first language e-learning course in the Merck KGaA's intranet (Merck Online Campus) in cooperation with PONS Stuttgart. Duration was four months, from March 2002 to June 2002. Target group were beginners and near beginners. This piloting course was tutor supported throughout. Components included self learning with a beta version of the PONS Inter@ktiv English course for beginners, regular chats, forum activities, online-tutor support via intranet e-mail, and face-to-face classroom sessions. The course successfully took 39 participants from beginner to pre-intermediate level in English.
