The electrochemical properties of IrO_2 nanoparaticles deposited on a synthetic boron-doped diamond surface (BDD/IrO_2) were investigated. After a description of the preparation procedure by thermal decomposition technique, the morphological characterization of the samples by SEM and TEM was discussed. The electrochemical behavior of the redox system 1,4-benzoquinone/hydroquinone (Q/H_2Q) was studied on BDD electrodes with a different IrO_2 loading. The kinetics parameters such the transfer coefficients α and β and the reaction rate constant k~0 were calculated. Oxygen evolution and oxidation of organic compounds were investigated on both BDD and BDD/IrO_2 electrodes by voltammetric measurement and preparative electrolysis. A phenomenological model is proposed to explain the behavior of electrodes.
