Comparison of soil pollution during waste deposit leaching and leachate infiltration on soil in a lysimeter

During waste leaching by rainfall or after waste flooding, pollutant transport occurs and can teach water table according to the liner efficiency. Infiltration laboratory tests with leachate carried out in a lysimeter in laboratory and on site waste leaching allows the comparison of soil pollution process. Tests were performed on waste clinker and lead slag. The leachate and the soil interaction assessment is performed by measuring physical and chemical parameters of the leachate before and after percolation in the soil layer. Pa-rameter analyses show that some categories of ions are retained in the soil and other categories are released. When the same liquid/solid ratio is used in the both models, the proportion of solute retained or released by the soil is the same. The soil pollution by leachate infiltration and by waste leaching is similar. Using Time domain reflectrometry (TDR) conductivity measurement, it is shown that the pollutant distribution in soil layer observed in the lysimeter predicts the pollutant distribution in the subsoil under waste deposit when the soil is percolated by leachate produced under the same liquid/solid ratio. Soil action on leachate observed in laboratory tests corresponds to that observed during in situ tests.
