ENTREPRENEURES AND THE EMERGENCE AND EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL NORMS

Social norms have become a ubiquitous concern. Yet, important questions remain with respect to how social norms come into existence and how they change over time. Economic and constructivist approaches to social norms have posited frameworks for the emergence and evolution of norms, but both perspectives leave open questions. Especially important are questions of which norm will arise and through what process will norms be replaced. This essay presents an agent-based model of norm emergence and evolution that formalizes a particular social constructivist model of norm dynamics.
