Recent events have forced us to contemplate the surprisingly delicate foundation upon which civilization rests and the maintenance of past advance. Few pillars of modern society match the importance of our water supply systems and none are less appreciated. Warnings as to the implications of further neglect have now been sounded on many fronts, and if accurate, problems with water distribution will become of the highest priority for decades to come.
