Supervision and improvement of the recording of linear scoring at weaning in beef cattle in France

Linear scoring at weaning has been included in the French beef cattle performance recording system for 30 years. Each year more than 300 000 calves are recorded. With an adapted organization and supervision including initial training, annual exam andon field supervision, we have been able to maintain the quality of recorded data. This quality is measured with the variability of the scores which have increased since 1996 and the standard deviation between the scorers which was almost always constantduring the same period.
