In multi-environmental yield trials, different genotypes show varying performance in different environments. To study genotype x environment interaction and identify stable genotypes over wide range of environments, various biometrical models have been used. However, most of these suffer from some defect or other. Bajpai and Parbhakaran (BP) have developed a model to rank varieties for their stability ratings. In the present study G x E interaction and stabilty have been studied by Eberhart and Russell, AMMI Matmodel and BP's simultaneous selection models to compare their relative efficiencies in a set of 17 sugarcane varieties comprising early and mid-late maturing genotypes. These varieties were evaluated in five environments at Lucknow. Analysisof G x E, stability showed that the AMMI matmodel and BP's simultaneous selection model are more efficient for such study.
