Authors analysed 7 periprosthetic tissue membranes collected at time of revision for aseptic loosening. In five cases prostheses were Alumina-Alumina. The results of this histological and ultra structural analysis showed that biological host response to Alumina wear particles depends on physical character of particles as dimension, shape and velocity of wear production and on chemical properties, as the composition and impurity content.
