According to recent several reports, it seems clear that the number of human genes is oaly several times those of model species such as C. elegans. This indicates that correlations between species complexity and gene number are not stringent and thatother factors determine complexity, such as alternative splicing, tissue-specific expression, cis-regulatory mechanisms and other global properties of the genome. We therefore analyzed the entire draft genome sequence by mapping millions of ESTs, and developed a new type of annotation based on the integration of aligned ESTs from various sources, such as Uriigene, BodyMap, dbSNP and full-length cDNA with efficient GUI.
