We explore the possible mechanism underlying the development of visual receptive field with special spatial-temporal response characteristics by self-organization, to answer how some simple-feature analysis neuron form through prenatal development in the absence of visual experience. The proposed self-organization model is characterized by modifying the Hebb learning rule through introducing the asymmetry time window for synaptic modification. The model may be more widely applicable than Linsker model and Wimbauer model. It can not only provide new possibility to elucidate how the diversified spatial-temporal receptive field of various types of visual neuron emerge, but can also fairly explain the special visual information processing principle on contrast polarity sensitive neurons found recently in visual system of vertebrate.
